Seneca Lake is the largest and the deepest Finger Lake, although neighboring Cayuga, nearly as large in acreage is longest. The bottom third of Seneca extends into northern Schuyler County. The County seat, Watkins Glen, is in very close proximity to both Cayuga Lake and Keuka Lake, giving tourists in Schuyler easy access to three of the largest Finger Lakes.
Watkins Glen is the Home of American Road Racing. It has international name recognition because of its automobile racing history. It has the only NASCAR race track in New York State.
Finger Lakes National Forest is the only National Forest in New York State and consists of 13,232 acres of forest, trails, ponds and wildlife.
Watkins Glen State Park - The Glen was formed 12,000 years ago and is the oldest, most famous, and popular of the Finger Lakes State Parks. It is one of the nation's great natural wonders. The State Park offers an Olympic Size Pool, camping, hiking, and the "World Famous" Watkins Glen Gorge containing 19 waterfalls, tunnels, and bridges. The water from the Gorge flows directly into Seneca Lake.
The Seneca Lake Wine Trail has the largest number of participating establishments of any wine tour in New York State. There are approximately 22 wineries in and near Schuyler County.
Catharine Creek is the most famous Rainbow Trout stream in New York State. Boat Launches and Docking Facilities for Seneca Lake are immediately adjacent to the core downtown business district of Watkins Glen and the County has the most boat launches on a Finger Lake of any county in the region.
